A variety of pathological conditions (chiefly high blood pressure, overweight or obesity, hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia), today named Metabolic Syndrome, is a condition which affects about one third of the adult population of western countries, and its prevalence is increasing also amonst the younger generation.
Metabolic Syndrome, being at first place between the causes of mortality, morbidity and disability from cerebral and cardiovascular disease, is a true pandemic problem requesting permanent lifestyle modifications combined with suitable pharmacological treatment.
Successful control of this syndrome deserves basic and clinical research but also wide scale health promotion and education targeting both young and adult population.
These issues are what AMEC has “at heart” and the aim of its mission which is “health promotion”.
